Biography

• He got master degree in Mathematics at University of Florence.
• He got Ph.D. in Agrometeorology and Ecophysiology of agricultural and forestal systems, at University of Sassari.
• From 1994 to 1996 he cooperated with CNR – IMAes (Institute for Agroecosystems Monitoring of Italian National Council) of Sassari and with CNR-IATA (Institute for Agrometeorology and Environmental Analisys applied to Agriculture) of Florence, on developing mathematical models for agrometeorology.
• Since 1997 he is researcher in environmental sector, at CNR – IMAes, then CNR-IBIMET and at present CNR – IBE, where he is concerned with modellization of biometeorology phenomena, both with traditional (analytical and statistical) techniques and with innovative (artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, fractal geometry) techniques.
• In the period 1999-2001 he cooperated with research group of prof. Giuliano Gabbani (Department of Earth Science, University of Florence). In this context he attended to carry out neural models to forecast pollutants flow-transport in unsaturated zone of soil.
• Since January 2000 he is chair of editorial board of Technical – scientific CNR-IBIMET Series (former INAPA Series) and Scientific Booklets of IBIMET Office (former CNR-IMAES Booklets). The CNR-IBIMET series concern to the agronomic-environmental problematics and to the techniques for monitoring the agro-forestal landscapes; 16volumes have been published.
• In June 2002, in the context of Convention CNR-University of Sassari, he made a request to become member of The Department of Economics and Woody Plant Ecosystems of University of Sassari. The request was accepted. This membership was renewed in June 2004.
• In September 2002 he was charged with the teaching of Mathematics at Degree Course in Agricultural Engineering and Planning of Rural Territory (Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sassari). He carried out the teaching for academic years 2002/03 and 2003/04
• Since 2004 he has cooperated with research group of prof. Luca Uzielli (Department of Environmental Forest Science and Technology, University of Florence). In this context he has attended to carry out statistical-mathematical models for analyzing the influence of meteo-environmental factors on Wooden Cultural Heritage Objects.
• Since 2006 he has been member of the Scientific Committee of Symposium “Monitoring of Mediterranean Coastal areas: problems and measurement techniques” (Sassari 4-6 October 2006, Napoli 4-6 June 2008, Livorno 15-17 June 2010, Livorno 12-14 June 2012, Livorno 17-19 June 2014, Livorno 28-29 September 2016, Livorno 19-21 June 2018, Livorno June 2020). For the all the editions he was coordinator of the scientific Secretariat.
• From 2006 to 2008 he was member of the research group Transfer of environmental monitoring techniques to cultural heritage. The group has carried out, in collaboration with Department of Humanities and Antiquity, University of Sassari, interventions aimed at identification of archaeological structures by means of remote sensing and geophysics.
• From 2007 to 2008 he participated in the project Sardinia for Secure Solar Energy where he was involved in the spatial data collected and the estimation of UV, from other meteorological data, using artificial neural networks
• Since 2008 he has been member of the working group of Cultural Landscape project of the CNR- Cultural Heritage Department. In this context, he is studying the connections between physical environmental parameters and populations. The activity is carried out in collaboration with Department Research of Cultural Systems of the University of Sassari.
• From 2009 to 2012 he was part of research group on the evaluation of risk factors that prolonged exposure to solar UV radiation leads to outdoor workers. The activity was carried out in collaboration with the Dep. Research of Cultural Systems of Sassari University and with the support of the Departments of Surgery and Public Law at the University of Pisa.
• Since November 2009, he has participated at project Grotta Verde (a cave close to Alghero, Sardinia Italy); in this context he was member of the research team that: a) designed and carried out the draft micro- meteorological network; b) analyzed the changes in the spatial and temporal trends of the measured induced by human presence inside of the cave.
• From 2010 to 2012 he was member of the working group of REACT project, commissioned by the Province of Sassari. The group has developed a prototype of a geographic information system for the integrated management of coastal areas of Sassari (Sardinia-Italy).
• From 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Project RESMAR -Action System A (Monitoring Network on coastal erosion); the project was led by the Service Soil Conservation and Forestry Policies of Environmental Protection Division of the Region of Sardinia (fundend by INTERREG Marittimo IT -FR Maritime).
• From 2013 to 2018 he participates in the project "Conservation and Enhancement of the Sardinian Caves: Biodiversity and Socio-Economic-Cultural Role" funded by the Region of Sardinia. The project, in collaboration with DIPNET –Sassari University, aims to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity of the coastal caves and tourist fruition.
